How our app works

If you are using www.afteridie.org you can synchronize your facebook account to avoid visiting our website to tell us you are still alive. But, how it works?

First of all when you add our application it will ask for permissions, lets explain all of them...

Post on your behalf:
For now the only message we post on your behalf is "Your Name is using After I die"... so, if you don't want to give us permission to do so it's ok...

Access posts in your News Feed
How we know you are still alive? Reading your posts and the time when they were posted. Sounds obvious

Access your data any time
Well... our application is not always looking at you. It runs like a scheduled process, in a specific time. The idea is to read your status when you are not using our application... (what is everytime cuz our application is not a funny game! :P )
But there is a problem, the last facebook policies are against this permission and is not working at all. Access permission is terminated after a certain time (less than 60 days), also when you log off your session, change your password or even more!

So... we are trying and trying to find an smart solution...

How can we do to tell you: "hey! visit us! we need to renew the access token!".... difficult, isn't it?

Well... a good idea would be to send you a notification. Yeah.. the red box in the corner is like an addiction. But there is another problem. Facebook doesn't like notifications (what a paradox!). Yes, as you listen... Apps cannot send notifications to users, very disappointing...

So the last chance is to increment a little unnoticed counter in the left panel:

Yes!... is a blue one! and nobody sees it...

What does number means? Each time we send you an email asking for you (because we are so sad and you don't even call us!) we also sent you an application request.

And what do you need to do? Just click on it!
Automatically facebook opens our website (and we take this opportunity to renew the access XD) telling if it's all ok (or not).

And this is the end...

Finally, what about twitter???
well... in twitter almost everything is public (99%) so, we don't need to do too much job, just tell us your username and we'll look for it

Would you like to leave a message before dying?

According to a survey conducted in February 2012 through Facebook, over 90% of people need to leave a message before dying.
But this is not new, thousands of years ago there were wills.

It's a fact, people do not want to die. All advances in medicine are intended to prolong life, and people want to pay for it.

But so far we cannot be immortal and we must be prepared for that moment.

Leave a message with your wishes, instructions or whatever will make the way easier for people to continue here.

Internet nowadays is part of our lives, so a formal letter may even be outdated.

afteridie.org becomes the solution, making sure that the information is not lost and remain as evidence.

The world, society and mores are changing, evolving in the way people want.

What happens when we die?

That is a really complicated question, but we'll talk about social networks, cloud computing and our binary life...

Imagine by yourself any situation, there are a million of different scenarios. Let's start showing a few examples:

What about your facebook/twitter account?
Maybe you have already had to face this sad situation: you've seen a lot of comments on the wall of a person or friend who has died. Really, it could be something you don't want to you...

What about the e-books, music or movies you bought in Amazon, iTunes, etc?
Maybe you'd like to give them to someone, after all you bought them...

What about the files you have stored in dropbox, iCloud, skydrive or even in your computer?
You don't want to share such information, it could affect other people..

What about your smart phone?
All your accounts are synchronized... so that someone could continue reading your emails, posting comments and other things...

So, how to deal with all these questions? It's simple, afteridie.org
You can schedule an e-mail that will be sent when you die.

But... I don't understand, how it works?
It's quite easy: you have to create an account, choose a mail recipient, write a testament and wait...
Regularly, you have to log in the site to let them know that you're still alive. If you don't log in, they will send you some notification mails and, if after a while there is no answer, they will know you are dead. But the most interesting is that you can synchronize the account with twitter or facebook to avoid re-visit the site.

Yes, we know, why all this extra trouble if in fact we'll be dead? Well, that it's your final decision, just be aware the tools are ready...
